Javhan Cosby,

Clinical Therapist Intern

I believe that we all possess the ability to improve ourselves for the better and I strive to act as a guiding agent throughout our journey together to assist you in creating your ideal self. As we grow through life, our struggles do not get easier but instead we become more equipped to manage them. As we explore on this journey together, we will discover different ways of looking at obstacles as well as develop healthy alternative strategies to cope with those challenges.

As a male do you struggle with feeling and acknowledging the spectrum of emotions that are within you? Men are told by society and sometimes their upbringing, that the expression of emotions makes them weak or that their manhood is in question. Men are expected to be protectors and leaders but are at times not knowledgeable or equipped with the tools and boundaries necessary to protect their own mental and emotional health. I provide a space where the acknowledgement and exploration of emotions is welcomed and encouraged.

Do you feel you are not properly heard in your relationship by your partner? Do the same troubles keep coming up within your relationship? I assist couples dealing with conflicts within their relationship such as trust, communication, infidelity, and the effects of past traumas surfacing.

I am a second-year clinical intern through Mercer University’s Marriage and Family Therapy program. My populations include individuals, couples, and groups ecompassing all ethnicities and backgrounds. As a Black male I aim to destigmatize the concept of therapy within the African American community and progress the idea of therapy into a healthier and necessary interaction.

Javhan is under the direction of Anthony Potter, LMFT-LPC, and supervised by his practicum Instructor, David J. Johnson, PhD, LMFT of Mercer University.
